Excitement building in volleyball circles

- – David Berry

There is an air of excitement in the Horsham district volleyball community with the recommencement of the winter season just around the corner.

The return to training has been well supported over the past two weeks, with good numbers for both women’s and men’s sessions, but it is Monday and Wednesday of next week that everyone has been patiently waiting for.

Juniors will start on Monday with the first games at 5.30pm, with all seven teams returning post lockdown. Brothers and sisters have been busy preparing their skills with sessions in the backyard and we know they will be itching to get back on the court.

C and A Reserve grades will also play on Monday, and while the A Reserve competition is now down to four teams, C Grade has all six teams resuming.

A and B grades return on Wednesday, with all 12 teams returning.

A Grade competition returns to St Brigid’s College stadium after starting the season at Horsham’s Lutheran school. After the reduction in teams for the A Reserve competition, this has opened the opportunity for this competition to rejoin the rest of the competitions at St Brigid’s College.

The competition will run for the next five weeks with semi-finals on December 13 and grand finals on December 15.

Anyone interested in participating in any of the grades of competition are welcome to drop into St Brigid’s College stadium next week.

Many of the association’s members are also preparing for the 26th annual Horsham tournament, which will be on the weekend of November 20 and 21.

Entries from across the state are rolling in and close on Wednesday next week.

Volleyball Horsham will be well represented in all senior divisions.

The men’s division one is all but full with seven strong teams entered already. Women’s division one has four teams, with both the men’s and women’s division-two competitions having five entries each.

A Victorian under-15 girls White team has entered, with its coach keen on giving participants an opportunity to play as a team, after the pandemic curtailed national championship preparations.

Volleyball Horsham encourages junior members to consider participating to give them some good exposure to visiting teams. Everyone associated with Volleyball Horsham is excited for the month ahead.
