Council plan to ‘detox your home’

-

Ararat council will allow residents to dispose of toxic chemicals for free next month in a plan to make the region safer and more sustainable.

Ararat Rural City Council, partnering with Sustainability Victoria, will accept unwanted household chemicals at Ararat Transfer Station on ‘Detox Your Home Day’, March 19, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Council chief executive Tim Harrison said people could dispose of chemicals such as cleaning products, pool chemicals, pesticides, kerosene and brake fluid. “Household chemicals can be dangerous if left around the home, posing risks to children and pets,” he said.

“In addition to harm these items pose to family members, they can also add extra fuel to a fire in and around the home. Start cleaning up around the home now.”

The event is contactless, drive-through only and registration is necessary.

Details of items not accepted can be found on council’s website, www.ararat. vic.gov.au along with a registration form.
