Support for South Sudan
Stawell Uniting Church is hosting a community outreach event to help raise money for a South Sudanese village.
Reverend Susan Pearse of Stawell Uniting Church said some of her congregation were from the village.
“The village had 32 people murdered, houses burnt and livestock stolen,” she said.
“I am hoping this event will increase awareness and understanding of the event and hope it will be a community building exercise.
“We have newly settled South Sudanese families living and working here in Stawell, who have escaped such danger.
“Most of us would have little to no idea about inter-community conflict or living in an unsafe town.”
Reverend Pearse said a monetary donation for the February 23 event would be ‘greatly appreciated’.
Ararat Uniting Church Minister Reverend Nathaniel Atem, who is South Sudanese, will talk about his life story at the event, from 6pm.
