Expo returns to in-person event
A“This is not an exclusive school event. We are welcoming interest from job seekers and career changers throughout our region. This is a one-stop-shop for anyone interested in careers. Come along and see what it’s all about” – Vanessa O’loughlin
Western Victorian Careers Expo will return to Wimmera Events Centre at Longerenong later this year.
The expo, limited to a virtual on-line presentation for the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, will return as a faceto-face engagement activity from 9.30am to 2.30pm on June 21.
The annual event, hosted by Wimmera and Southern Mallee Careers Association and a committee, started in 1986 and has grown to become the largest careers expo in country Victoria.
Organisers are predicting this year’s expo, with The Weekly Advertiser and radio stations 3WM and MIXX FM signing on as media partners, will attract considerable interest from national, state and Wimmera exhibitors.
Committee representative and Wimmera Southern Mallee Local Learning and Employment Network project officer Vanessa O’loughlin said the event was likely to attract more than 2000 people.
“The response from exhibitors has already been very encouraging,” she said.
“We are looking forward to a full and extensive program for students, job seekers, career changers, parents and the broader community.”
Wimmera Southern Mallee Careers Association president and Horsham College transition and pathways lead teacher Caroline O’donnell welcomed the expo’s return.
“Having students being able to talk, interact and engage with exhibitors face-to-face again is incredibly beneficial for creating aspirations, planning pathways and gaining a deeper understanding on the depth of careers and opportunities available,” she said.
“From Horsham College’s point of view, we are extremely fortunate to have this event in our backyard.”
Expo exhibitors will provide course and career information, Tertiary Information Services, TIS, a Try-a-trade interactive zone, drop-in apprenticeship centre and career seminars.
Mrs O’loughlin stressed the event went well beyond being solely for school students.
“This is not an exclusive school event. We are welcoming interest from job seekers and career changers throughout our region,” she said.
“This is a one-stop-shop for anyone interested in careers. Come along and see what it’s all about.”
Mrs O’loughlin said people interested in exhibiting or attending the Western Victorian Careers Expo could find out more on online at www.wimmeracareerexpo.com, or by calling her on 0418 312 556.
