One round to go
Lawn on top
Wimmera tennis clubs have begun preparations for their final home-and-away match of the summer 2021-22 Central Wimmera Tennis Association season.
Last weekend’s matches, the penultimate round, saw St Michaels slip from second to third position on the ladder after forfeiting to Drung South Purple.
Kalkee, beneficiaries of St Michaels’ misfortune, claimed second place at the close of round 12.
Horsham Lawn remains on top, now closely followed by Kalkee and St Michaels, one win behind in second and third positions.
Kalkee was clinical in its triumph over Drung South Orange, winning 8-85 to 4-69.
Horsham Lawn was dominant in its win over last placed Central Park, winning 11-94 to 1-35.
Drung South Orange and Central Park will play each other in their final regular season match on Saturday.
Both sides will not play in the knockout finals series the following week, but the winner can award their opponent the pennant wooden spoon for a lastplace ladder finish.
Each side heads into round 13 tied with one win, however as it stands, Drung South Orange sits above Central Park on set win percentage.
Kalkee will hope to do all it can to hold onto second spot with a win over Drung South Purple.
While St Michaels, which plays Horsham Lawn, will need a win, as well as a Drung South Purple Victory, to reclaim second spot and a home-court finals match.
