Derryn Hinch hits the road

-

Derryn Hinch, of Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party, is visiting regional Victorians prior to the Federal Election and made a stop in Horsham last week.

“We’ve been on the road and covered about 10,000 kilometres after going to Echuca, Swan Hill, Donald and then Horsham,” Mr Hinch said.

“You don’t see many Senate candidates out and about and it’s important to get out into the regional areas.”

Mr Hinch said before getting on the road he thought he had an idea of how the election would go, however he was now uncertain.

“Anybody who wants to predict this election is very gutsy,” he said.

“I have been genuinely surprised and maybe the independents will do better than I initially thought.

“This is one of the most interesting elections that I have seen.

“I hope that whoever gets in its not a hung parliament because the last one didn’t work so well, and we want whoever is in to be decisive.”

Mr Hinch said he was hearing

the biggest issues in regional areas were the cost of living and rail services.

“Cost of living is one of the biggest issues facing people. The decrease in the petrol excise helped lower the cost but diesel is back to over $2 a litre and there are serious housing problems,” he said.

“It is not right to have to take a train and a bus and then a train again to get somewhere.

“People in the regions are sick of being treated as the poorer cousins.”
