First chance at big dance
Horsham Lawn and Central Park are competing on
Saturday for the first spot in the
C entral Wimmera Tennis 202223 pennant grand final.
Kalkee and St Michaelswill fight to remain in the finals series in the second semi-final.
Due to a forfeit by Drung South at the weekend, Central Park moved to the top of the ladder and will host the final.
When they last m et, in round 14, Horsham Law n defeated Central Park, 9 -3.
Previously, in round nine, Central
Park defeated Horsham L awn 7 -5, and in round four Horsham Lawn defeated Central Park 8-4.
Horsham L awn's Cherie Wood has been consistent all season and shows n o signs of that stopping in finals.
Central Park' s Willow Sainsbury has had a strong season so far and will b e a challenging opponent on Saturday.
Kalkee will feel confident facing St Michaels in the semi-final after defeating the Sain ts in the team's previous three encounters this season.
Kalkee won 7-5 in round one, 8-4 in round six and 7-5 in round II .
Kalkee'sjeff Friberg and Steve Schultz continue to be a powerful partnership in the doubles and will face the tough competition of Peter H ayes and Ian Nitschke.
Other grades
In A Special com petitio n, Natimuk has been dominant all season and will be looking for a straight run into the grand final when itcomes up against Horsham Lawn Thompson. It will be a closer contest between Ka lkee and Telangatuk East, with both sides winning eight rounds eachfor the season. Haven has set itself apart in the A Grade competition and it will be difficult for Horsham Lawn Bardell to get past them for a po sition in the grand final.
Central Park and H orsham Lawn O'connor will fight to play another week.
A larger div ide in B Special will likely see Central Park win a spot in the big dance, while N atimuk will provetoo strong for Laharum.
Semi-finals, includ ing for all junior grades, will be played this weekend before all remaining teams have a break for the March long weekend.
Finals recommence on March 18 with grand finals scheduled for the foll ow ing Saturday, M arch 25.
