Buru honoured for bilby project

The West Australian - - WEST BUSINESS -

A WA energy junior that is often the target of conservationists has been given an environmental gong by the oil and gas industry.

The Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association gave Buru Energy the award in Adelaide last night for an initiative to protect bilbies. Buru is frequently targeted by anti-fracking activists for its gas drilling plans in the Kimberley.

APPEA director Graham Salmond said the judges found the bilby project was a notable example of Buru’s culture of environmental protection.

The organisation also recog- nised Woodside with its safety award.

Mr Salmond said Woodside was continuing a strong focus on process safety and asset management, and was increasing its use of data analytics to minimise risks.
