With Land Rover’s Polo in the City making its stylish return to Langley Park today, it’s worth noting the fashion etiquette. AMP Capital fashion ambassador and Karrinyup Fashions on the Field judge Agatha

Wichert stresses the importance of not dressing like you’re headed for a day at the races.

“That’s a big no-no,” Wichert told AAA Weekend. “It’s not the races, so no fascinators please, and definitely no stilettos or pointy heels because it’s on the grass.”

Wichert said attendees should still aim to look polished and sophisticated and shared some of the top trends to embrace at the urban polo match.

“It’s not so formal,” she explained.

“It’s more of a cooler vibe. Being outdoors in the summer, linens are a really good thing to wear as well, so you’re comfortable.

“A good espadrille or wedge, or some funky flats are good options, straw boater hats are really in at the moment, or a nice, big floppy hat. Another thing that’s a bit cool at the moment is a scarf detail in your hair.”

She also said punters could not go wrong with whites, linens, two-piece sets and topping off the look with statement earrings and sunglasses.

“Another nice thing to have is a cross body bag — that way, you can easily have your champagne in hand.”

Men will be happy to hear that white sneakers are totally acceptable.

“That’s more recently acceptable attire to wear,” she said. “Loafers, a nice white sneaker and a tailored jacket, a fresh, summery feel.”

While tickets are still available to join the Somersby Polo Lounge, VIPs will be rubbing shoulders in the invitation-only marquees. That includes AMP Capital’s marquee, which has grown to attract more than 400 attendees this year and will be attended by comedian Jim Jefferies.

“It’s a really fun day — it’s actually one of my favourite events for the year,” Witchert said.

“I really look forward to it. There’s a lot of fun, the divot stomping, and at the end of the day, it turns into a bit of a dance party, but you’re watching the polo and you’re just enjoying the company of friends and the beautiful weather.” Krystal Sanders
