The Bull was saddened to hear the news yesterday that a green sea turtle found floating in Port Hedland harbour had died despite a spirited effort by the Pilbara community to save it.
This month, crew aboard a
Pilbara Ports Authority pilot vessel spotted the stricken animal floating in the busy harbour and unable to dive.
The authority’s environment team retrieved it and took it to
South Hedland Vet Hospital.
But it was decided the reptile needed specialist attention at the Exmouth Vet Clinic, which provides care for the
Ningaloo Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.
