Jordan Thompson is through to the second round of the Libema Open in the Netherlands after a straight-sets win over Tommy Paul.
The 25-year-old, who was Australia’s last man standing at the French Open before bowing out to Juan Martin del Potro in the third round, rallied to see off the American qualifier 3-6 6-1 6-4 in 1hr. 42min. at the grass-court tournament on Monday.
The world No.62 will play Australian Open quarterfinalist Frances Tiafoe today.
The American beat Portuguese No.1 Joao Sousa 6-2 7-6 (7-0), a result which ended a three-match losing streak for the 21-year-old. Sixth-seeded Tiafoe edged out Thompson 3-6 6-4 6-3 in Acapulco when they last met earlier this year.
