• cup olive oil

• 1 onion, finely chopped

• 1 car­rot, peeled, finely chopped

• 2 cloves gar­lic, crushed

• 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh rose­mary

• 1 litre (4 cups) veg­etable stock

• 400g can chopped toma­toes

• 200g bunch kale, rinsed

• 2 x 400g cans can­nellini beans, drained, rinsed

• salt and pep­per, to taste

• 300g loaf cia­batta, cut into 3cm-thick fin­gers

• cup finely grated parme­san, to serve
