28 WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2019 LIFTOUT THE WEST AUSTRALIAN • ADVERTISING FEATURE 4 University Mid Year Entry First-year student impressed with CQUni experience Though she has only been with CQUniversity for a short time, Ms Ingram’s said her first impressions of the Perth campus had been promising. First-year university student Kalani Ingram is paving the way to her dream career in the safety industry thanks to CQUniversity. “After hearing lots about occupational health and safety through friends and family, I became increasingly interested,” she said. “CQUni’s Perth campus is in a very convenient location,” she said. “Being right in the heart of Perth’s CBD makes using public transport so easy and seamless. The campus facilities are very clean, friendly and easy to navigate.” “I have always enjoyed helping people, and the safety industry helps and saves many.” Ms Ingram said she chose CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) as it was one of the only Western Australian universities to offer an OHSspecific undergraduate degree. Although Ms Ingram is enrolled for oncampus study, she said living 75km from the Perth CBD could make attending full-time difficult, so she was grateful for the option to study online and engage in her courses from wherever she was. “I applied and was pleased to get a prompt acceptance,” she said. “From there, I attended the orientation at the Perth campus and decided CQUni was perfect for me. “With the Zoom call technology, it’s very easy to dial into lectures from virtually anywhere,” she said. “I have a great interest in the OHS course, as I feel so passionate about people returning home from work in the same, if not better, state than what they left in.” Conveniently located a few minutes away from Perth Underground station and Elizabeth Quay station, the University’s Perth campus offers facilities for students both studying on campus and online. Although an OHS career is firmly in her sights, for now Kalani is looking forward to enjoying her uni life. “Being a first-year student and only 18 years old, my aspirations are very broad,” she said. “For now I am just aiming for the best university experience possible and then hopefully some travel and adventure once I have completed my degree.” CQUniversity students in regional Western Australia are also supported by study hubs in Busselton, Geraldton, Broome and Karratha.
