National aths titles for WA
The nation’s best track and field athletes will showcase their skills in Perth next year when the 2022 Australian championships are held at the WA Athletics Stadium.
Set to be held in April, the championships will be vital for athletes competing for spots at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and the World Para Athletics Championships later that year.
Perth will also hold the championships in 2025, with more than 3500 athletes competing in 1000 events. The WA Athletics Stadium was scheduled to host the 2021 and 2024 titles, but they were delayed because of COVID-19.
Athletics Australia chief executive Darren Gocher described the titles as the “premier event on the Australian athletics calendar,”
“We know there an increasing demand for athletics across Western Australia, making it the perfect location to host next year’s Championships and again in 2025,” Gocher said.
Commonwealth Games gold medal pole vaulter Kurtis Marschall said Perth was the best track in Australia.
“It’s very fast with usually good tailwinds for the sprinters and the pole vaulters and the jumpers,” he said.
