The West Australian
Festival is anything but a drag
The Mounts Bay Sailing Club is set to come to life with a new party experience over the Anzac Day long weekend. The Palace Social Club is set to be Perth’s first festival for the white-collar crowd — complete with pastel-coloured lounges, day beds and a “top-shelf” alcohol selection.
Palace Social Club hopes to be the classier little sister to sellout music festivals Wine Machine and Origin Fields and will even feature tailored drag events.
Palace J Entertainment director Jaylee Osborne said she’d had the idea to deliver a boutique festival for the young professional for years.
“It’s a space and an event that I want to come to; we have a slogan that says it is for friends by friends. We thought, let’s create an event that my friend would want to come to,” Osborne told AAA.
“We wanted to try and deliver something a little more upmarket, find that point of difference . . . that attention to detail is something you can’t really do with major music festivals.”
With a yacht club backdrop and high-end cocktail bars, there will be several events over the weekend, including a day rave on Saturday headlined by DJ Kitty Glitter.
The event will also throw WA’s first Drag Brunch. The soiree — that has proved popular in the Eastern States thanks to the bottomless mimosas — will add a touch of glitter to the sparkling bay with the help of RuPaul’s Drag Race star Coco Jumbo.
“. . . it is for friends by friends.”
