Fancy rural home on offer near Gundy

The Western Star - - RURAL WEEKLY -

DRIVE slowly down Clarkes Rd, Goondiwindi, and you might catch a glimpse of a Georgian-style residence perched on the banks of the Macintyre River.

Set on two hectares, 21 Clarkes Rd is one of Goondiwindi’s most prestigious residential properties.

When planning their home, the owners set very definite criteria.

Views of the river were a must and a curved driveway would sweep through rolling lawns to the residence.

The residence must have all the enduring hallmarks of the classically beautiful Georgian design – symmetry,

refinement, harmony and elegance.

It was to be built with bricks from Sydney, home of the early Australian Georgian homes, and the bricks had to be laid in the style of that era, imbuing symmetry and adherence to classical rules.

French doors with traditional green shutters add detailing. On the lower level, rooms would open to verandas where vines twist around posts.

On both levels verandas would have views of the river and the magnificent surrounds.

Floodlit at night, the riverside is perfect for parties or a garden wedding.
