Spikes end cop chase

A STOLEN ve­hi­cle has led po­lice on a high speed chase near Yuleba on Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon, with spike strips de­ployed in an ef­fort to stop the of­fend­ers.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred at around 3pm Wed­nes­day, when po­lice were pa­trolling the War­rego High­way at Yuleba on the look­out for the stolen ve­hi­cle.

Po­lice iden­ti­fied the ve­hi­cle, and ac­ti­vated lights and sirens.

The pa­trol con­tin­ued its pur­suit of the of­fend­ers, as they reached high speeds along the War­rego High­way, head­ing east.

The unit was given au­tho­ri­sa­tion to de­ploy spike strips, which suc­cess­fully ended the chase – caus­ing the stolen ve­hi­cle to drive into bush­land be­fore even­tu­ally crash­ing into a tree.

The two men taken into cus­tody were charged with a num­ber of of­fences.
