Mitchell woman’s origin creation

The Western Star - - NEWS -

TO HONOUR State of Origin’s rich indigenous history, News Regional graphic artist Shannan Bishop, formerly from Mitchell, has designed a unique poster of today’s stars.

The poster features the seven indigenous players involved in the 2018 Origin – Latrell Mitchell, Josh Addo-Carr, James Roberts and Tyrone Peachey from the Blues and Dane Gagai, Will Chambers and Greg Inglis from the Maroons.

Miss Bishop is a proud Gunggari woman who also has connections to Wakka Wakka and Gubbi Gubbi land.

“I was inspired to do this poster because it combines three of my favourite things – my culture, art and State of Origin,” Miss Bishop said.

“The symbols I used for this artwork include concentric circles, wavy lines and straight lines. Concentric circles represent campsites, waterholes or a place of significance. Wavy lines represent water or rain and straight lines represent ways of travelling.”

Check out the artwork on pages 18 and 19 and tune into State of Origin on Sunday.
