The Western Star - - News -

WITH school students returning from holidays this week, drivers are being warned to slow down. According to recently revealed data from RACQ and the Department of Transport and Main Roads, nearly 20,000 drivers have been caught speeding through school zones,

In total, 19,826 drivers were caught breaking the law in the reduced speed zones between January 1 and December 31, 2018.

Of those, 1775 drivers were caught going more than 20km/h over the speed limit. “Motorists need to remember the reduced speed limits are during weekdays from 7–9am and 2–4pm, unless otherwise signed,” RACQ spokeswoman Lauren Ritchie said. “Ignorance of a school zone is no excuse. “Speeding will not only earn you a fine and demerit points, but it can have deadly consequences,” she said.
