The Western Star - - News -

WITH a big year ahead planned, Scott McDonell took over the role of Rotary Roma president on Saturday night, while welcoming the club’s newest member.

Taking over from Greg Shaw, Mr McDonell said it was reassuring to see a recent rise in membership numbers.

“On Saturday, Travis Jackson was in attendance. He’s our newest member at just 22,” Mr McDonell said.

“He’s a Roma boy that did the Rotary Youth Exchange Program to Brazil for a year back when he was finishing Grade 12.

“It’s great to see those people, who started off as recipients of our programs become Rotarians a few years later.

“We also handed over a wad of cash to Paul Anderson, our treasurer, on behalf of Chris and Debra Van’Thof from the Club Hotel who have been raising money for us from their Friday night raffles to go towards local youth programs.”

Mr McDonell said the 2019-20 year would see big movement from the local Rotary club, including further development of Pinaroo and Rotary Park.

“We’re moving into our next phase, where we’ll go from 60 beds to 70,” he said.

Rotary meets every Tuesday at 6.30pm at the Club Hotel.
