New units unveiled
THE reopening of two units in the Vincentian Village on Sunday has provided a safe haven for older men that may not have anywhere else to go.
All Saints Conference of St Vincent de Paul Roma president Gerard Mulligan said the units provided low-cost accommodation for older males who wouldn’t be able to afford their own home otherwise.
“The units are perfect because they’ve got company if they want it or their own space if they don’t,” he said.
“A lot of them will move around and knock on each other’s doors if they feel like some company.
“There’s also big breakfast held every Thursday by the St John’s school kids, which gives them the chance to socialise and join in on the breakfast.”
In a small ceremony held on Sunday, Bishop Robert McGuckin blessed and opened the Edwardes St units, which had been demolished in February 2018 and rebuilt late last year.
Maranoa Regional Council, Advance Communications and Graham Tiffany were awarded certificates of appreciation for their involvement in the construction of the units.
