A MAN wielding a toy gun while walking down a Chinchilla street resulted in a response from armed police.

Officers armed with rifles and wearing bulletproof vests arrived at a premises on Birkett St about 12.15pm on Tuesday after receiving a Triple Zero call that an armed man was on the loose.

Dalby-Burnett Acting Inspector Scott Stahlhut said a member of the public made the call.

Acting Insp Stahlhut said on arrival police saw two men in a home, one matching the description of the person reported.

The officers directed the men outside at gunpoint where both submitted to police instructions, and a search inside revealed the truth behind the weapons.

“A pistol-style gel blaster handgun and a gel blaster rifle was located,” Insp Stahlhut said. “They’re of a genuine appearance to legitimate weapons.”

The incident is the latest offence involving gel blasters across the region.
