Pooch patrol in force

The Western Star - - News -

FOR the next two months, council will inspect properties in search of unregistered dogs with on the spot fines ready to go.

The Selective Inspection Program has commenced, with the program running from Monday, September 2 to Friday, November 29.

Inspections may occur in premises situated within the townships of Amby, Injune, Jackson, Mitchell, Muckadilla, Mungallala, Roma, Surat, Wallumbilla and Yuleba.

Community Safety councillor Puddy Chandler said the program would encourage all animal owners to register their pets.

“Time is running out, please ensure your pet is registered to avoid a fine. Having your pet registered means reuniting is easier if your pet was ever to get lost,” Cr Chandler said.

Last year’s Selective Inspection Program was successful, resulting in 321 new registrations and 408 registration renewals – a 53 per cent increase on the 2017 program.

With the inspections having commenced this week, council has educated residents about responsible pet ownership prior to the program to help reduce the amount of fines issued this year.

Council records indicate that there are 369 outstanding renewals.
