Ag shows get $27K boost

SHOW­TIME in the Mara­noa is still many months away, but or­gan­is­ers have wel­comed an early cash in­jec­tion to make their lo­cal events big­ger and bet­ter.

Roma, Wal­lum­billa and Mitchell Show So­ci­eties have all re­ceived state fund­ing un­der the Show So­ci­eties Grants Pro­gram amount­ing to $27,822.

“We will be us­ing our grant (of $7209) for up­grades to in­fra­struc­ture at our show­grounds,” Wal­lum­billa Agri­cul­tural and Pas­toral As­so­ci­a­tion pres­i­dent Mark Swan said.

“There are a few things which def­i­nitely need fix­ing up be­fore the next show, and we will be hav­ing a meet­ing in early Oc­to­ber to de­cide ex­actly what it will go to.”

Queens­land Cham­ber of Agri­cul­tural So­ci­eties gen­eral man­ager Trevor Beck­ing­ham wel­comed the fund­ing.

“In many cases, this fund­ing is crit­i­cal for so­ci­eties to be able to con­duct their show,” Mr Beck­ing­ham said.

“I’d like to thank the gov­ern­ment for its on­go­ing sup­port, help­ing to keep the gates open and put smiles on faces all over the state.”
