Proud team player’s season celebrated
Players’ Player of the year reflects on great season for club
RUGBY UNION: Returning to his home town to play the game he loves, Ben Bright is stoked to have finished the season with the Echidnas’ most prestigious award engraved with his name.
Nominated by his fellow club-mates, Bright has been named the Players’ Player for 2019, an award he wasn’t expecting.
“It was pretty special to get an award alone, I didn’t really expect too much,” he said.
“At the end of the season, we got each of the players from both grades to give their 3-2-1s for the whole season and I got the most.
“Coming home and playing for my home town again, it was pretty special to receive an award like this.
“Looking at the past names on this award are a few legends of the club so it’s pretty awesome to have my name engraved on this one as well.”
Although Bright is returning to his Brisbane club, Brothers, next year, he’s hopeful the town continues to rally around it’s club, especially considering the stellar season they have had.
“I know after the season we’ve had there is going to be a lot of players who do stick around which I hope does happen,” he said.
“It was an awesome season and I do hope the club continues to build.
“I think a lot of us have done some great things for this club and for it’s future and I really hope the community stays behind us.
“We’re back in a good spot and we can only move up from here. One day Roma will get their first A-grade premiership and that will be a very special day.”
