Roma Sa­le­yards 50th an­niver­sary next week

CAT­TLE and folk are pre­dicted to fill Roma Sa­le­yards next week as the largest cat­tle sell­ing fa­cil­ity in the south­ern hemi­sphere cel­e­brates 50 years in oper­a­tion.

On Oc­to­ber 8, coun­cil will cel­e­brate the oc­ca­sion with a 50 per cent re­duc­tion in liveweight, open auc­tion and agent op­er­at­ing fees for each head of cat­tle at Tues­day’s store sale.

In ad­di­tion, AAM Op­er­a­tions Pty Ltd are con­tribut­ing to the re­duced fees for this sale, by 20c per head on the scan­ning and

30c per head on the live­stock move­ment.

Roma Sa­le­yards coun­cil­lor Peter Flynn said he was ex­cited for next week’s event.

“This is an in­cred­i­ble op­por­tu­nity to pay trib­ute to a fa­cil­ity, that over the course of 50 years, has seen over 11 mil­lion head of cat­tle sold at a value of $5 bil­lion,” Cr Flynn said.

The day will con­sist of a tour, a spe­cial guest Se­na­tor James McGrath who will as­sist in the of­fi­cial un­veil­ing of a com­mem­o­ra­tive plaque and a bar­be­cue lunch. Pro­gram:

■ 7.45am – In­tro­duc­tion and an­niver­sary sale an­nounce­ment

■ 8am – An­niver­sary sale com­mences

■ 8.15am – Roma Sa­le­yards Tour (hosted by one of our lo­cal guides)

■ 9.30am – Of­fi­cial wel­come and un­veil­ing of com­mem­o­ra­tive plaque

■ 11am-2pm – Bar­be­cue
