Men of League annual golf day
GOLF: The rugby league community will put aside club rivalries as they come together for the betterment of the sport.
Next weekend the Men of League Foundation Roma Committee annual golf day will take place at Roma Golf Club.
Since 2002 the Men of League Foundation has been the port of last call for those within the sporting family facing tough times with inadequate resources.
Organiser Lyle Cherry said he encouraged everyone to come down and have a hit to support the families doing it tough out west.
“We’ve been running the golf day since 2016 and it is always a great day,” Cherry said.
“You don’t have to be good at golf, it’s a social day and a cheap day out.
“It’s good for the mental health, a day to unwind and have a laugh. It also gives the people on the land a bit of relief.”
Special guests on the day include dual-code international footy player Geoff Richardson and Queensland state manager Andrew Blucher.
Off the fairway there will be crayfish races, best-dressed team competition, multi-draw raffles and live memorabilia auctions that will include a ball signed by Kalyn Ponga, a framed and signed Matt Gillett jersey and more.
Cherry said not to worry if you did not have a team.
“We will organise that for you and slot you into a group,” Cherry said.
