A MUM in China woke in the night to find her son, 2, repeatedly hitting himself on the side of the head. Looking in his ear, she could see an insect’s legs but was unable to remove it. A visit to hospital revealed the legs she saw belonged to a cockroach. ENT specialist Chou Shuyao, from Southern Medical University Shenzhen Hengsheng Hospital, found it inside the boy’s left ear canal, crawling on his eardrum. The 6mm insect was still alive and was removed with tweezers.
