Awarded for health excellence
QUIET achievers who are leading the way in rural and remote healthcare had the spotlight on them last week.
South West Hospital and Health Service staff celebrated their achievements at the health service’s annual staff excellence awards in Roma.
SWHHS chair Jim McGowan said the awards received more than 70 nominations from across the health service for seven award categories.
“The awards event was a great opportunity to recognise both individuals and teams for their enduring dedication to providing quality health care to the health service’s communities,” Mr McGowan said.
“It was a real privilege to witness staff faces full of pride and excitement as they accepted their awards and I’m sure their success has inspired their colleagues.
“Working in rural and remote settings, our staff have a special connection with their communities and the entire southwest can be very proud of all of their achievements.”
Four Roma health professionals took awards out including Joanna Tutt, Jeremy Kunde and a team award going to Sharon Edwards and Annette Jensen.
Physiotherapist Joanna Tutt took out the Quality award – striving for excellence and do their best to deliver person-centred care.
Mr McGowan said the quiet, but high achiever provided the best quality care to her clients, as was the support she provides to her colleagues and her profession.
Business manager Jeremy Kunde took out the Adaptability award – showing willingness to learn, change and grow.
Mr McGowan said Jeremy’s early identification of the issues during the early stage rollout of S/4HANA and quick response meant there was no interruption to surgical or clinical services at Roma Hospital or the smaller facilities in his portfolio.
“He always demonstrates the ability to be adaptable in any situation,” Mr McGowan said.
Perioperative Services team Sharon Edwards and Annette Jensen won the Jim and Jill Baker Award – awarded to the employee or team who demonstrates excellence in their chosen field.
