LORETTA Johnson has had quite the year – first being named as Woman of the Year a few months ago and now announced as an International keynote speaker.

The Acting Assistant Commissioner of Darling Downs has been asked to be a keynote speaker for the International Summit for Healthcare held in Sydney in March.

“It’s an absolute honour to be asked. There are speakers that are professors, CEOS from other organisations so to be speaking alongside them is pretty amazing,” she said.

“It’s quite overwhelming but I’m really excited because I’m so passionate about rural health care.

“When you are passionate about something you speak about, it touches people and they do take a message from it.” Focusing on women in leadership and healthcare, Ms Johnson’s speech will discuss how to leave a leadership legacy in front of thousands of people who come through for the conference.

“I think it will be great opportunity to get people to listen and understand how important rural health is in the region and advocate western parts of Queensland,” she said.

“I speak from the heart and people feel that because I talk about finding your passion and purpose.”

Originally from Injune, Ms Johnson started her career in Rockhampton in 2007, before becoming chair of the central west mental health committee in Longreach, which focused on providing support to graziers and community members experiencing drought.

Loretta, who has been living in Roma for the past three years, says she has been truly humbled by her achievements.

“It’s important you take these opportunities out of winning these awards,” she said.

“It’s a great opportunity to be recognised and to be able to use that award to promote what I am passionate about – healthcare in rural and remote communities.”
