Young stars bound for Queensland Reds glory
TOMORROW will be the big day, the nerves are pumping through their veins, as Chinchilla’s Seraphina Dickman and Chloe Ellem prepare for the biggest games of their career.
Seraphina and Chloe have received the much anticipated news that the duo will be stepping up into the big leagues after they were the both selected for the under-15 girls sevens Queensland Reds Rugby Union side.
The girls have put themselves in the record books as the Chinchilla River Rats’ first ever Reds representatives, and coach Lindsay Ashby couldn’t be prouder.
“I’m probably just as proud as their dad,” he said.
“The girls have worked so hard and it’s been a long season so just to them reach their full potential and playing so positive, it is really great to see. I wish them very good luck.”
Being chosen in the top 24 from initial squad of 40 girls, this is a massive achievement for the two young women.
Described as having a natural talent, a desire to get better with every game and their hard work, the girls are over the moon to take the next step.
“The girls are pretty stoked,” Ashby said.
“They are pretty happy and very humble and don’t speak too much about themselves, but more about the team.
“They would say they only got to where there are today because of the team and they just played really well together.”
Working on confidence, good structure and team plays, the pair feel like they are more ready than ever.
Chloe and Seraphina will pull on the Reds jersey for their first ever game with them on Saturday , pplaying at the Sunshine
“They will be fine because they are confident,” Ashby said.
“Obviously, there are some nerves there, but I think once the girls get the ball in their hand, they will just do what they have do. I’m just trying to help them understand to keep their feet on the ground and just play to their potential and they will do well.”
During the competition they will be playing against other state teams inlcuding New South Wales and Victoria with the hope of one day wearing the green and gold.
SEEING RED: Chloe Ellem and Seraphina Dickman are still in disbelief with their selection in the Reds side.
