TENNIS: Tennis Maranoa is preparing to ace a number of upcoming key events, with a bumper schedule of fixtures set to keep tennis enthusiasts on their feet.

Tennis Maranoa performed strongly at the recent JDS tournament in Warwick on March 24–25 and had a number of impressive placings among competitors who train at the club.

The tournament showcased some of the best talent in the south and fielded 65 competitors intent on making their mark.

With many exceptional performances across the board, the efforts of Alec Hollingworth in the 10 and unders and Jesse Hollingworth in the 13 and unders were the most impressive, each of them emerging as winners from their age groups.

Honourable mentions go to Charlie Stivano in the 10 and unders, Archie Stivano in the 11 and unders, while Henry Reardon and Luke Doig also performed strongly in each of their age categories.

Tennis Maranoa manager Dean Stansell was impressed with the way his team handled the pressure of playing at a major tournament.

“I was most pleased with the improvement from our last tournament and they really impressed me with the way in which they were playing the points,” he said.

“They were thinking about how to win points instead of just hitting balls.”

The previous tournament in Toowoomba earlier in March produced a number of outstanding results from young players, including vistory to Archie Stivano in the 11s and Riley Burns winning alongside Ryan Sullivan in the doubles.

Tennis Maranoa hosted a tennis camp last week and this week, with a three-day program teaching children the basics of tennis.

Both camps had about 25 participants, demonstrating the interest in tennis throughout the Maranoa.

Tennis Maranoa will be hosting its major post-school holiday tennis tournament in two weeks, in which junior players from all over the south will be eagerly anticipating.

Regular adult and junior fixtures will return on April 23, with group fitness classes starting with the new term.
