Golfers swing through balmy weekend of action
GOLF: Whether it was a casual hit out or a serious shot at a trophy, golfers from throughout the region gathered in Roma on the weekend for another round of fairway fun.
Saturday’s single stableford event had trophies provided by Justin Rudd. Outscoring his closest rivals was Len White who nailed 42 stableford points.
This performance was good enough to edge Lachlan Young who mustered 41 points along with Wayne Plate
Fourth and fifth was determined by countback with both players on 40 points and Justin Rudd did enough to outscore his playing partner Darren Thrupp.
A balmy Sunday was the setting for a competitive single stroke event, with trophies supplied by Patrick Mawn and the Roma Golf Club. Finishing on top of his competitors and showing calmness under pressure was Mark Slater, who won the day with 65 nett, ahead of Rod Slater with 66 nett, Nathan Moody with 67 and Wayne Johnson with 68.
Golfers who may have shot below their best will have the chance to do it all again this weekend with a single stableford event on Saturday and Sunday with trophies provided by Michael Justins and good friend of the club, Alan Herbertson. For those at Mitchell, the club will host the highly anticipated Mitchell carnival on Sunday with a starting time of about 10am. A Roma club meeting will start at 5.30pm today where the upcoming Roma carnival will be discussed and all committee members are encouraged to attend.
