The Western Star - - NEWS WELCOME -

VITAL lifelines across the south-west can now be upgraded with the help of government funding.

Maranoa MP David Littleproud has encouraged communities to make the most of what is available by applying for Round 6 of the Remote Airstrip Upgrade Programme.

“For many communities in the Maranoa (electorate), air services are essential.

“Upgrading this infrastructure will help the community be assured aviation safety obligations are up-to-scratch and air services such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Australia Post, freight and other air transport services can continue to meet local needs.

“Projects for airstrip upgrades can include building animal-proof fencing, pavement repairs, levelling and upgraded lighting,” he said.

“These upgrades are imperative, particularly when it comes to medical evacuations at night and the hazards that livestock and native animals pose.”

Applications are open until November 29, and can be made at www.business.gov.au/raup

Airstrips in need of repairs may be eligible for funding.
