Nite Art on on Thursday July 23 sees Melbourne galleries open late, as well as artworks occupying surprising non-gallery spots all over Melbourne. You’ll find interactiv­e, multi-disciplina­ry creations across three inner-city precincts. Use our map to guide your night, or stray from the path and curate your own artventure.

HAMER HALL PRECINCT 01 HAMER HALL

Begin your illuminati­ng evening at the premiere performanc­e of ‘Fly By Night’: a new work by Melbourne-based art collective Melinda Hetzel and Co. This site-specific work combines dance, theatre and digital technology, taking audiences on an performati­ve tour of Hamer Hall. 100 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne 3004.

CENTRAL CITY PRECINCT 02 RUSSELL STREET SUBSTATION

Open House Melbourne invites you to descend into the depths of an electricit­y substation, where design research group Paper Giants takes you through the Wayfarers Project. Advised to take a particular path, you can compare your fresh experience with that of the Wayfarer object, which has recorded audio-video data of previous paths taken. 03 WEST SPACE

Renowned for its contributi­ons to the local art scene, this institutio­n is showing the works of local and internatio­nal artists. 04 KINGS ARTIST RUN INITIATIVE

MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY PRECINCT 06 CARLTON CONNECT INITIATIVE

Your perception­s of colour will be challenged in an interactiv­e experiment by Simon Cropper, and Quantum Victoria have designed a light-based game inviting discovery and innovation. LAB-14, 700 Swanston St, Carlton 3010.

07 MELBOURNE SCHOOL OF DESIGN

Liquid Architectu­re is inhabiting MSD’S recently constructe­d building, taking you on a sonic journey through its design and offering surprise encounters. University of Melbourne, Masson Rd, Parkville 3010.

08 IAN POTTER MUSEUM OF ART

Complete your night at the festival’s social hub, which will be open till midnight.
