01 Stage Presence: Design from the Australian Performing Arts Collection
The Arts Centre’s senior curator Tim Fisher has delved into the 600,000-strong Performing Arts Collection to curate a fascinating exhibition on stage design in Australia and beyond. Look out for Jennie Tate’s costume design for Ozopera’s 2008 Madame Butterfly, and Hugh Colman’s White Witch robe from a 2002 production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. 02 200 Years of Australian Fashion
The NGV has curated the most comprehensive collection of Aussie designers ever. The garments describe the evolution of design in Australia, including the rise of the department store and the halcyon days of shopping at the top end of Collins Street. Design favourites for the last two centuries are represented, including Akira Isogawa, Collette Dinnigan, Australiana revivalists Romance Was Born and contemporary faves PAM and Alpha60. 03 Marilyn Monroe
Bendigo Art Gallery has teamed up with Twentieth Century Fox to present Marilyn Monroe – one of the most comprehensive exhibitions ever to explore the screen siren’s life and legend. Monroe appeared in more than 30 movies and left an indelible mark on cinema and pop culture. The exhibition boasts 40 of her high-glamour outfits, including the satin, hot-pink, floor-length sheath of fabulousness that she wore for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953).
