You Might as Well Live

The Boon Companions, creators of cult immersive theatre experiences, invite you to dress up as a member of the 1930s literary elite for an evening of words and wine. 1000 Pound Bend, 361 Little Lonsdale St, Melbourne 3000. 7pm. $20. Sat Jun 18.

amazing Babes

A favourite of the Emerging Writers Festival for several years now, the always-inspiring Amazing Babes will see female writers (among them Amy Gray, Bronte Coates and Roj Amedi) paying respect to “the rebel girls, the riot girrrls and the just-a-girls”. The Toff in Town, Curtin House, 2/252 Swanston St, Melbourne 3000. 7pm. $15-$17. Mon Jun 20.

Youtube Party

Anyone who has seen a dinner party devolve into a showcase of everyone’s favourite Youtube videos (“mine next!”) will see the appeal of a more formalised version, hosted by talented writers including Nakkiah Lui ( Black Comedy) and political video mash-up master Huw Parkinson. Cinema 1, ACMI, Federation Square, Flinders St, Melbourne 3000. 8pm. $15-$17. Thu Jun 23.

It’s Not Easy Being Green

Every writer has felt the pain of peer envy; at worst, comparing your work to that of other writers can be crippling. This event, hosted by success stories like Michelle Law, Tim Mcguire and Lorelei Vashti, will reassure you that every writer shares these feelings (ironically, it might force you to wonder how your jealousy compares to that of the people in the room). 1000 Pound Bend, 361 Little Lonsdale St, Melbourne 3000. 7pm. $15-$17. Fri Jun 24.
