Nederlands Dans Theater
“SUBLIME” “ASTONISHING” AND “magnificent” are terms critics have used to describe the works that the Nederlands Dans Theater will bring to Melbourne in June. The Dutch company of 28 dancers has a reputation for defiant, exhilarating works that have influenced contemporary dance since 1959. Artistic director Paul Lightfoot will present three pieces. The music of Beethoven matches emotive modern ballet in ‘Sehnsucht’ by Sol León and Paul Lightfoot; snowflakes swirl to the strings of Brahms in ‘Solo Echo’ by Crystal Pite; and dancers match the intensity of composer Max Richter against large-scale video projections in ‘Stop-Motion’ by Sol León and Paul Lightfoot.
