Audi reinvents the hot hatch

- OK

We knew an Audi SQ2 was coming, but we didn’t think it would be this fast. It uses the VW Group’s ubiquitous 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but instead of Golf GTI tune (242bhp), it’s working at a full-fat 296bhp and 295lb ft – the same muscle as the VW Golf R. Or, indeed, Audi S3. The top speed is limited to 155mph and, being an S car, it’s got quattro drive, so 0–62mph is dusted in a claimed 4.8 seconds. That’s a tenth swifter than BMW’s fastest X2, the M35i, which actually has a couple more horsepowers. Hah! Ingolstadt one, Munich nil.
