5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE... PORSCHE 911 SPORT CLASSIC

The ducktail is back for this limited-edition retro 911

1 IT’S INSPIRED BY A VERY SPECIAL 911

See that glorious ducktail spoiler and the Fuchs-style wheels on the new Porsche 911 Sport Classic? They’re both present because this retro 992 is inspired by the magical 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS. Porsche couldn’t have picked a better starting point.

IT’S NOT THE FIRST SPORT CLASSIC

Readers over the age of 13 will remember that back in 2009 Porsche unveiled a Sport Classic based on the 997-gen 911. This new one follows a very similar theme – it’ll be a limited edition with just 1,250 examples available worldwide and in the UK it’ll cost £209,540. Yikes.

IT’S WIIIIIDE

The body is the same as the one fitted to the 992 Turbo, meaning it’s 50mm wider than a standard Carrera or Carrera 4. The Sport Classic also gets an exclusive Sport Grey Metallic paint finish that’s inspired by early 356s and is combined with retro stripes, roundels and racing numbers.

THERE’S A MANUAL GEARBOX!

The SC’s 3.7-litre twin-turbo flat-six sends a hefty 542bhp to the rear wheels alone, with all of that power going through a seven-speed manual gearbox. Porsche will throw in some serious kit too; a “specially tailored” sports exhaust system is standard, as is fancy electronic damping and a sports suspension set-up that drops the ride height by 10mm.

THE INTERIOR IS RETRO TOO

Don’t fret millennials, there are still screens. The iconic Pepita houndstooth pattern returns on the door panels and the seats though, and here it’s combined with both black- and cognac-coloured leather. Is that a lovely bit of wood we spy on the dash too? Perfection.

?? ?? Don’t be deceived – the Sport Classic is very much not restricted to 60mph
