ORPHÉE
OUT 19 OCTOBER
A gleaming restoration of Jean Cocteau’s reworking of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Beginning in post-WW2 Paris, this monochrome fantasy follows its own dream-like logic as poet Orphée (Jean Marais) is captivated by an envoy of Death (María Casares). It’s a film of matterof-fact brilliance, where ‘special effects’ derive from everyday objects, and memories of the war haunt the atmosphere.
