The curtains, compositions, connoisseur-ish music, cutting drollery… Even with Wes Anderson’s tics set, his second pic remains a wickedly wrong-footing treasure. You never know where you are as Jason Schwartzman’s precocious student (15 going on 48) battles Bill Murray’s millionaire (48-ish going on 15) for Olivia Williams’ love (and carrots). Should we cringe, cry, or cackle? Anderson keeps the tonal balance spry, aided by the late-’90s Murraysance in full (anti-)bloom. Criterion extras are on-point. Kevin Harley
