An Amer­i­can Were­wolf In Lon­don, this hand­made crea­ture fea­ture is the de­but of 21-year-old wri­ter­di­rec­tor John Lan­dis. The proto-au­teur also proves a win­ning mime within Rick Baker’s ape suit – he is Schlock­thro­pus, the pre­his­toric beast who falls in love with a blind woman, goes to the movies to watch The Blob, and plays a lit­tle jazz pi­ano be­tween killing 789 peo­ple. The hu­mour is skit-and-miss, but the af­fec­tion glows. Don’t miss the crack­ing yak-track by Lan­dis and Baker. Jamie Gra­ham
