Even if you can’t improve perfection, John Carpenter, Daniel Davies and John’s son Cody do their damnedest to respect and reinvent Carpenter’s trail-blazing 1978 score for 2018’s sequel. With gnarled guitars, pulsing beats and pulverising effects adding density, ‘Michael Kills Again’ and the spoiler-ish track 17 stylishly sustain the original’s nerve-scrunching purity of purpose.
