Turkish auteur Nuri Bilge Ceylan follows his Palme d’Or-winning Winter Sleep with another long, literary tale, this time about an aspiring writer (Dogu Demirkol) who’s returning home. There, he encounters his gambler dad, childhood friends and an old flame, with Ceylan allowing the talk to flow and moods to shift in a slice-of-life drama as tasty as the titular pears. Jamie Graham
