MILES AHEAD

-

For the first time on the big screen, Peter Parker is not the main character in a Spider-Man movie. Instead, Miles Morales – a Brooklyn-born teen of Puerto Rican and African-American descent – will be king of the swingers. Created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli in 2011, Morales is a fan-favourite with a level of popularity that belies his relatively brief existence. “It’s a situation where because it’s so iconic, you want to do it justice,” says Shameik Moore (Dope), Morales’ soft-spoken voice actor. The differences between Miles and Peter are myriad – including a slightly different set of powers and uncles with differing states of mortality. As Moore puts it: “Although they got these powers the same way, by a spider bite, Peter was excited. Miles is more like, ‘I don’t want this. This is too much responsibility. I just want to go to regular school. And now I’ve got powers? What is this?!’”
