TRAILERS TRASHED

- TOM, VIA EMAIL

Irecently visited my local multiplex to see Bad Times At The El Royale, which I thoroughly enjoyed. However, there were no trailers; not one. Surely I’m not the only person who looks forward to trailers as much as they do the main feature? I was encouraged to buy cars, alcohol, phones and games consoles; I was even pointed in the direction of Netflix. I do watch trailers on YouTube (who doesn’t?) but as with movies, there’s nothing quite like watching them on the big screen. The only trailers I saw on this trip were those attached to trucks delivering to the nearby supermarket. Hope this isn’t the sign of things to come. Anyone else had a trailer-less cinema trip? With trailers everywhere from social media to shopping centres, do we still need them at the actual cinema? Get writing! For Dialogue’s part, viewing context can make a difference; seeing the Johnny English Strikes Again trailer on an iPhone we casually dismissed it. But seeing it again on the big screen… we ran to the usher asking to swap seats, cinemas and eyeballs.
