NO HALF MEASURES
Re: the letter in TF278 about star ratings. I appreciate that Total Film only rates out of five, in full stars. However… if you’re secretly going to have ‘high threes’ and ‘low fives’, then why not simply create a new system and rate out of 15? Films have been rated out of three, four, five and 10 before, but never 15. It’ll shock the film-reviewing industry, but will remove all ambiguity. Incidentally, my rating for Bohemian Rhapsody is 13.5 out of 15.
Oh no… now we have to rate out of 30! KEVIN STANLEY, LINCOLNSHIRE Thirty?! We’re gonna need a bigger page width… Long-term readers will recall that, back in the day, TF gave a star rating to pretty much every aspect of a film, from direction to sideburn continuity. Nice idea, except each issue was as fat as a phonebook and by the time you’d finished reading, all movies reviewed were on ITV2.
