Adapted from the mega-selling book series by Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl is the latest contender for the Harry Potter throne. But despite surface similarities, Artemis Fowl is a very different character from the boy wizard. He’s a young mastermind, for starters, and he’s about to be introduced to a hidden world of fairies. “Artemis is very smart, not necessarily cool in the way that you might expect a film hero to be, but someone who occasionally comes across as what some people might regard as a little arrogant,” says director Kenneth Branagh. “You could say that Artemis Fowl is, in some ways, an antihero, which is an exciting thing to present for Disney.” MM Artemis fowl opens on 9 august.
