Could you relate to Dell? Kevin Hart
What compelled you to get involved
with The Upside?
It was a different opportunity. I knew that I had to come in and make sure the character was grounded and real – someone that people will gravitate towards, and follow, and invest in.
I know people like Dell. I’ve seen people go through the same journey. He was incarcerated, and is trying to get his life together. He’s feeling like he’s being pulled back by the system.
Are there any dramatic performances by comedic actors you admire?
I mean, there’s tonnes of them. Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy. You look at Will Smith. You look at Tom Hanks. To see those individuals go and make the turns that they’ve made… it gives me motivation and confidence, and I hope to do the same in my career.
Are you seeking more dramatic roles?
I don’t want to rush it. I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew. But I definitely want to make sure that I put myself in a position to really do shocking material that can constantly keep my fanbase intrigued. JF
